How to Make a Portable PVC Target Stand

Creating PVC target stands is a breeze! These stands are not only portable and light but also budget-friendly, rust-resistant, and built to last.

To build your very own PVC target stand, follow the steps below:

Materials Required

  • 2-inch x 10-foot PVC pipe
  • 2-inch T” fittings (You'll need 4 of these)
  • PVC pipe cement
  • Primer
  • 1×2-inch wood furring strips (You'll need 2 of these)

Construction of the Stand

1) To make your own portable target stand from PVC, start by cutting the PVC into four 12-inch parts for the feet, 2 4-inch sections for the upright framework, and one 20-inch section for the crossbar. You can use a measuring tape to do this.

2) Next, use the T fittings to glue the crossbar and feet together. At the same time, apply T fittings to the center of the PVC pipe intended for the upright framework. To glue everything together, apply PVC primer and cement to the pipe's exterior and interior.

3) Lastly, insert the wooden furring strips into the feet. You can directly staple or glue cardboard backers or targets to these strips.

How to Build a Wooden Target Stand

If you don't have PVC pipe, you can try building wooden target stands. The only drawback of this stand is that it could rot if exposed to moisture, so be careful with how you store it.

To build a wooden target stand, follow the steps below:

Materials Required

  • 2 x 36" wooden piece
  • 1 x 40" wooden piece
  • 1 x 60" wooden piece
  • 2 x 24" wooden piece
  • 8 Screws
  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver

Construction of the Stand

1) To build a wooden target stand, take both the 24" wooden strips and mark their centers. Place the 24" strips on top of the 60" strip and attach it with screws so that it forms a T.

2) Next, place the 36" strips onto the ends of the 24" strips, mark the center, and fasten them in place with screws.

3) Last but not least, create another T by screwing the 40" strip over the top of the 60". You can attach paper or cardboard targets to the wooden frame. If you're looking for a readymade option, consider going for the Caldwell Ultimate Target Stand.
